Welcome to the website of a giant railway model with the motives of the Vysočina Region!

The website of the civic association “Modelové království Žďár” (in English “Model Kingdom of Žďár) is dedicated to the construction and operation of one of the largest railway in the Czech Republic. It is unique thanks to its focus and design as we have aimed to model the real railway-stations, buildings and landscape features. You can see not only the railway, but also the production of trees, landscape features and buildings themselves.

About the project

This project is unique because we do our best to reflect the reality as much as possible. As we come from Žďár, we have chosen the Vysočina Region and its beauties as a model. That is why the main dominating feature is the railway-station in Žďár with its dense rails and the railway siding leading to the company Žďas and the ZZN siding (serving for supply of agricultural products). Our goal is to be as close to the reality as possible, but still, we have to make various compromises and adjustments, although we have a remarkable room available (12x9 metres), where the rails can copy the room walls and create the letter “U” turning almost to the letter “O”.

First, we planned to build the old railway-station in Žďár, but finally we preferred more famous and up-to-date buildings from both nearer and farther neighbourhood. You can look forward to seeing for instance Loučský viaduct that is about 2.30m long, sportsmen will certainly appreciate the sports areal with the hotel Ski and heritage lovers can enjoy the Pernštejn castle or the Church of St. John of Nepomuk at Zelená Hora, which is registered in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Besides the railway-station in Žďár, there are also railway-stations in Nové Město na Moravě and Nedvědice, the railway-stop in Hamry nad Sázavou with its scenic surroundings including the mammoth statue by M. Olšiak, native of Žďár, the church in Vítochov and other interesting buildings and landscape features.

Railway plans

Here you can learn more about the system of the rails within the whole railway model. The area of the model is a little over 50 m2, from which only Žďár takes 15 m2 and the total length including the switches is about 7 metres. The main rails are about 5 metres long and the rails in other stations are long up to 4 metres. Hold yards are built also for longer train sets; there are 5 of them in total and they are called according to the stations around Žďár nad Sázavou. Ninety train sets can be sidetracked in these hold yards.

Here you can find Maloměřice, Havlíčkův Brod, Tišnov, Rožná or Brno – bottom. These names are only our working titles and as these stations are hidden, there is no similarity. Visible railway-stations are Žďár nad Sázavou, Nové Město na Moravě and Nedvědice.
